   Chairman of U.S. National Endowment for Humanities visits Nanjing Library
 

On the afternoon of September 9, James Leach, Chairman of the U.S. National Endowment for the Humanities, Li Hong, Deputy Director of International Liaison Department of Ministry of Culture and representatives of the Sino-US Cultural Forum, a group of 20 people came to visit Nanjing Library. Fang Biaojun, Member of Leading Party Group of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture,Secretary of the CPC Committee of Nanjing Library met the visitors and showed them around. 

The group of James Leach visited Chinese newspaper reading room, Jiangsu writers’ works hall, Braille books and periodicals lending and reading room, Chinese and western language books lending and reading room, self-study room, collection of the historical documents, collection area of ancient books and showing area of six dynasties trace. We showed composition of employees in Nanjing Library, classification of books and digital process of ancient books. They highly praised the architectural modeling, layout settings and reader service of Nanjing Library. In the collection area of ancient books, the foreign guests appreciated ancient treasures, such as Buddh a vatamsaka-mah a vaipulya-sutra, Shi Ji Zhuan and Cheng Shi Mo Yuan with great interest and listened to the staff’s explaination carefully, showing great interest in collecting, spreading and protecting ancient books. After visiting, Fang Biaojun presented James Leach Rare Book Series of Nanjing Library. 

There are several people accompanying the visiting, including Zhao Houhong, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of Nanjing Library, Wang Bing, Assistant to Chief Librarian and the staff in charge of foreign affairs office of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture.
