Following the visit of Steven S. Koblik, director of Huntington Library, in mid October, Liguan Dexia, curator of Garden of Flowing Fragrance and Suzanne Wright, associate professor of Chinese Art at Tennessee State University were sent to NL for specialized research on collection of woodcut books of Ming and Qing Dynasties related to gardens. Fang Biaojun, member of Leading Party Group of Jiangsu Department of Culture as well as secretary of CPC Committee of Nanjing Library, and Xu Xiaoyue, director of Nanjing Library met with the two experts.

According to cooperation intention between NL and Huntington Library, Huntington Library is planning an exhibition on Ming and Qing Dynasties woodblock prints with connections to gardens. It will be the first time to hold a large-scale exhibition on this type of ancient books in on the west coast of the United States of America. It is significant to show the brilliant history of China in the development of printing in the world of book and woodblock printing. Therefore, historical archive department specially arranged the staff to check this kind of books off. After detailed check, on the basis of 7 bibliographies that put forward by Garden of Flowing Fragrance, such as Su Yuan Shi Pu, we sorted out over 100 kinds of ancient books, such as Xi Yuan Ji. Then, we arranged business backbones to accompany the American experts to study. When the two American experts saw the ancient books bibliography that NL prepared, they were very excited. They repeatedly said it was beyond their expectation. Consequently, they specially extended their scheduled research time by two days. They stated:“the trip to NL is very fruitful. After returning to the United States of America, we will keep in touch with NL. We will put forward specific recommendations on cooperation exhibition between the two libraries, making great efforts to strengthen cultural communication between Jiangsu and California.”

Quan Qin, deputy director and Wang Bing, assistant to chief librarian participated in the reception with the American experts.
